I didn't think I would say this so soon...but the months really have been flying by! September was a month of getting to know one another and building our classroom and school communities. The students have been able to do a lot of growing in such a small period of time but also a lot of getting to know themselves and others!
In Writing, we have wrapped up Sentences and we have begun our Paragraph writing unit which will lead into our Narrative Writing come November. In Reading, we have wrapped up our Retell reading strategy, soon you will see your child's blue reading strategies duo-tang where all of our Retell work and our final assessment will be found. We are now starting the new strategy of Making Connections- Text-Self connections. In Math, we have FINALLY finished Unit 1- Patterns and Numbers on a Hundreds Chart and Number Line. We will be focusing on Number Sense next, which is adding and subtracting. The students will be getting a better understanding of how to better communicate their answers! In Social Studies, we have finished our mini unit on Mapping Skills and we are well under way into our unit on our First Nations communities in Ontario. We will be further exploring the Longhouse and looking deeper into the communities of the Algonquin and Iroquoian peoples. This unit will have a lot of inquiry based questions and big ideas for students to explore. In Religion, we have developed an excellent understanding of our school, home and parish communities. We have written prayers of Thanksgiving and we will be starting our Media component soon when we report on one of the miracles of Jesus. Thank YOU parents for all of your support during these first 2 months of school. I look forward to seeing you again for parent-teacher interviews on November 24-25th! Happy Learning!

Summer has flown by and now you are in grade 3! How exciting!! I am so happy you are in my class and I cannot wait to get to know you and watch you grow!
Parents, welcome aboard! Grade 3 can be a scary place for parents from time to time, but rest assure I will keep you well informed and updated on any new curriculum changes that may come our way! I will be updating our classroom website every week with photos of our day, math and language concepts we have done and much more. This blog however will be updated on occasion, when your child has written in their agenda CHECK CLASSROOM WEBSITE it's likely because I have updated my blog to keep you informed! Don't feel obliged to constantly check (unless your child wants you to of course) I'm looking forward to meeting you at the BBQ! |
